Every car needs a battery to run and cannot run without it. For an optimum performance of your car you need to keep proper maintenance of car’s battery. Battery handling is very important however most of the motorist ignore it and believe that batteries are maintenance free. Proper battery care is very important to keep your car running smoothly. Following are the ways you can keep proper care of battery to add longevity and ensure that your car keeps running.
Signs of low battery
1. Your headlights look dim at idle
2. The starter turns slow hardly starting the car
3. Warranty period has expired; right time to reinvest in new battery
4. Sometimes the car starts and sometimes it doesn’t
How to take care of car’s battery:
1. Proper battery handling includes not keeping the car headlights on for a long period of time
2. Turn of the air conditioner when not needed
3. Do not keep to many accessories on as it puts strain on the battery
4. The battery case shows the expected life of the battery; if near the end get it replaced
5. If it is a maintenance free battery you don’t need to add water however if it is a unsealed battery you will need to add water or regular basis
6. Clean the top of the battery and the cables connecting the battery with a wire brush
7. Lubricate the posts as applying lubrication keeps the cables clean and prevent corrosion
8. Make sure all cables are properly connected
If you keep proper care of your battery it will run longer and your car will not stop running. If you keep proper maintenance of your car once every year your car will have an extended life. Also you should keep one thing in mind when handling your car battery, most of the batteries are 12volt lead acid batteries which release inflammable gasses when recharges therefore always wear rubber gloves and eye protection gears. Also remove all metal accessories from your body to prevent short circuit if by chance these touch the positive terminal of battery.
